Religious monstrance for holy hour, gold-plated. AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE SHIPMENT. Dimensions: Total height: 56 centimeters. Halo diameter: 28 centimeters Base diameter: 16 centimeters. Case diameter: 9 centimeters. For hosts up to 8 centimeters. Materials: 24k gold-plated brass and bronze. A monstrance is also called an ostensorium (from the Latin ostentare, "to show"). In the Catholic religion, it is the gold or other precious metal vessel where the host is placed, after being consecrated, for the adoration of the faithful (believers). Monstrances or ostensoria originated with the institution of the feast called Corpus Christi in the mid-13th century. From the mid-15th century, they adopted the form of a turret or ogival temple (almost always silver) bristling with pinnacles and supported by an artistic base, with a silver or gold lunula or viril in the middle to visibly place the host. During the Renaissance, they were also built in the form of a temple but in the Roman style, and from the late 16th century onwards, those in the form of a radiant sun, which are more common today, began to appear. In the 18th century, these featured circles of angel heads surrounding the central viril.
