Reliquary with different figure models Made of nickel-plated brass Measurements: Diameter: 5 centimeters Height: 2.3 centimeters A reliquary is a type of box or case intended to preserve a relic, an object that belonged to a holy person or that was related to them during their lifetime. Their main purpose is to preserve the object in question, as well as to prevent parishioners who gather for veneration from having physical contact with it. In the earliest beginnings of the Catholic Church, reliquaries, which were then better known as encolpium, were worn as medals, containing charms with inscriptions or in the shape of small boxes; therefore, it is deduced that, in its beginnings, this practice had a more intimate character.
