Measurements: 15.5x15.5 cm The pall seems to date from the late 16th century, as before that date, one end of the corporal, folded over the chalice, or other folded corporals, depending on different regional customs, served this function. It is a square piece of cloth, about 15.5 cm per side, and generally reinforced with cardboard inside. The Pall is used to cover the chalice during Mass and protect its contents from dust, insects, etc. (If it is round, it is called a "hijuela" or round pall.) The Pall can have ornamentation only on the top part, which can be richly adorned. The fabric and color usually match the vestments.
