Beautiful beeswax Paschal candle embossed with an image of Saint Michael the Archangel, ideal for gifts or donations to churches and chapels. Candle 1.6x8 cm. History The candle was lit with the new fire and also served for the blessing of baptismal fonts. Others attribute the origin of the Paschal candle to the wax columns that Constantine ordered to be lit on Easter night, and some to the custom of writing all the movable feasts dependent on Easter on a blessed candle. Later, these feasts were written on a strip of paper or parchment that was attached to the candle, as is still practiced in some cathedrals. The Sacred Congregation of Rites decreed on May 19, 1607, that the Paschal candle should be lit on the three solemn days of Easter, on Saturday in Albis, and on all other Sundays until the Ascension.1 Current liturgy indicates that the Paschal candle is lit during all ceremonies of the Easter season, that is, from the Easter Vigil until Pentecost Sunday, fifty days later (eight weeks).
